Rob Melo struck out 11 and allowed only four hits in a complete game to lead Patchogue-Medford to a 1-0 win over Brentwood in Suffolk I baseball on Friday. Frank Kentoffio doubled with two outs in the first inning, and John King hit a single to drive Kentoffio in for Patchogue-Medford (9-8).

Commack 4, Ward Melville 1: Ryan Krzemienski struck out 11 and allowed just one run in 5 1⁄3 innings to lead Commack (11-5) in Suffolk II. Evan Kay went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs and earned the save. Chris Messina went 2-for-3 and Dean Vincent hit a two-run homer.

THURSDAY’S GAMES

Calhoun 4, Carey 3: Danny Goodman threw out the would-be tying run at the plate with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to lead Calhoun (7-6-1) in Nassau AA-II. Matt Sferratore was 3-for-3 with three doubles, Tim Lynch went 1-for-3 with a bases-loaded double and Joe Santos went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Brentwood 9, Ward Melville 8: Evangelina Vargas hit a second-inning homer and had three RBIs to lead Brentwood (3-12) in Suffolk I. Sara Kropp hit a homer in the fourth inning and Rachel Salgado homered in the seventh.

Bayport-Blue Point 4, Shoreham-Wading River 3: Alyna Dolan struck out 11 in a complete game and added two hits and the winning RBI to lead Bayport-Blue Point (15-1) in Suffolk VII. Lianna McCormack went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

BOYS LACROSSE

THURSDAY’S GAMES

Riverhead 14, Sachem North 7: Griffin Sumwalt led Riverhead (11-3) with five goals and three assists in Suffolk I. Sean Payton had three goals and one assist. Coach Victor Guadagnino earned his 200th career win. Brayden Tappin had five goals for Sachem North (3-10).

St. John the Baptist 9, St. Dominic 8: Nicholas Limberg scored five goals to lead St. John the Baptist (14-2) in CHSAA. Ryan Banaciski had two goals and an assist. Will Shaw had 12 saves. James Jenet and Brian Medley scored two goals each for St. Dominic (8-2).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Wantagh 11, Long Beach 10: Juliana Cerasi scored the winning goal with 1:42 left to lead Wantagh (7-4) in Nassau I. Cerasi finished with three goals and one assist and Riley Forthofer had four goals. Delaney Chernoff had three goals and one assist for Long Beach (6-6) and Emily Backlin made three saves.

Herricks 12, Carey 11: Ava Stanza scored the winning goal in overtime to lead Herricks (8-3) in Nassau IV. She had seven goals and an assist. Kaylie Cho had five goals and two assists. Leila Paz had nine goals for Carey (8-3).

FLAG FOOTBALL

THURSDAY’S GAMES

Port Washington 24, Massapequa 14: Ashley Yee rushed for 164 yards and four touchdowns to lead Port Washington (10-3) in Nassau I. Alexa Benun rushed 11 times for 114 yards. Nil Tanlak had an interception and five flag pulls. Brooke Pastolove had four flag pulls and an interception.

Half Hollow Hills 42, Bay Shore 0: Samantha Heyman completed 21 of 27 passes for 203 yards and five touchdowns to lead Half Hollow Hills (10-1) in Suffolk I. She also threw for four one-point conversions. Rose Azmoudeh caught seven passes for 72 yards and three touchdowns.

GIRLS BADMINTON

Whitman 8, Smithtown West 1: Megan Rankel defeated Rylie Schweigert at first singles, 21-19, 21-17, to lead Whitman (10-2) to its 10th straight Suffolk I win. Dani Probst and Sara Duffy beat Kayla Ali and Jacey Lin at first doubles, 21-11, 22-20.
